Rebekah was walking our dog yesterday when she was approached by a creepy dude. He walked across the street and tried to talk to her, mentioning that he knew Karate and wanted to bake her a cake. He repeatedly asked her "where do you live" and questions of the like, to which she answered "in a house on the other side of town". She then hid in a bush when he wasn't looking and as soon as he realized she was gone, bailed down the street.
When she came in the house to tell us the story, she mentioned that he has said things like that before to her and her friends and that "everybody knows he's just creepy and should stay away from him".
We called the cops. They were here in minutes, literally less than five. One of the cops happened to be the very same cop that helped us out so much when Kelly was in her accident in January, he asked how we were doing and chit-chatted about Kelly's back. Then they talked to Rebekah and she described the guy to them. They said they had seen him earlier wandering around our neighborhood and thought he looked suspicious, but couldn't stop him for walking around. They said they would look around a bit and question him.
We assumed that would be the end of it and told Rebekah how proud we were of the way she calmly recounted the creepy dude.
At 9:00 sharp this morning as we're eating breakfast, we got a REALLY loud knock on the door. I open it to three officers standing there, one of which we already knew. They said they had found the guy and wanted to take Rebekah down the street to I.D. him. Kelly volunteered to ride along, since Rebekah actually pointed him out to Kelly a few months ago. Sure enough, it's the same guy.
They called us earlier this evening to let us know that he was on probation for a "matter that they could not discuss" and that due to Rebekah coming forward and giving them phone numbers to her friends that have been harrassed by this chump in the past, were able to arrest him on charges of harrassing multiple minors.
Score one for Rebekah. We're so proud of her... If you have kids, remind them that you never can tell when something like this is going to happen and all you can do is ALWAYS run from a situation like that and let your parents know.
